3 domains or 6 kingdoms – which do you emphasize in your life science class? What activities or lesson plans do you use for this topic? Would love to hear from you and bounce ideas. Thanks!
I teach the six kingdoms. When I get back to school next week, I will look through my things. I can not remember in details the activities because it has been a year since I taught it. I will be teaching it again this year.
I teach both, but emphasize the 3 domains, the tree of life, evolutionary histories, cladistics, etc.
UC Berkeley’s website is an excellent resource I’ve used. It’s time we science teachers are more up-to-date.
I emphasize the three domains. However, I teach both as a spring board for discussing how classification systems can change based on new evidence. I am always supporting the idea of evidence, evidence, evidence. The students are always fascinated that I learned about the six kingdoms while in middle school and due to new evidence they are now learning about the three domains.
~I would have to echo previous commentors regarding the U.C. website.

Thanks, UC does have a great website with lessons for science teachers: http://undsci.berkeley.edu/
