This school year flew by and now I am done for the summer. Phew! I am sorry that I have neglected this blog, please refer to my website for all up to date information for what goes on in my classroom.
My 5th grade notebook is updated and posted, as well as my planbook:

While the interactive notebook worked really well these past two years, for September I am going back to using a 1/2 inch binder and numbering the handouts as I hand them out to keep the consistency of a notebook.
The main reason I am switching back is purely the amount of paper and glue that is needed to upkeep these notebooks. It is also harder to recycle the notebooks once they are done with them.
Over the summer, I plan on reorganizing my handouts and photocopying mini-units for the kids to place directly into their binders to maximize using the front and back of every handout.
After 3 years, I have the 5th grade program fleshed out and exactly how I want it, so there may only be a few minor changes next year.
Would 1″ or 1.5″ work. I teach 8th grade. We require that they have a science binder.
A 1 inch binder worked well and fit a 70 to 100 page spiral notebook easily. This year, I am having the kids use a 1/2 inch binder but not have a spiral notebook.
However, I see that you glue or tape onto pages. I just thought that a wider notebook might be better.
came across your site through google. thanks SO much for sharing your science notebook! i am a 7th grade science teacher (spiral curriculum) and this will be my first year implementing the interactive notebook in my classroom.
No problem…good luck and have a great year!
Found your site and loved it. Thanks for sharing!! I have used interactive notebooks for years for 7th and 8th grade science. I try to limit the amount of worksheets used and often used paper that is already printed on one side for pages that will be glued in. (my husband brings me all his old reports from his work-reams of paper). When traditional 2 sided worksheets are used we have students fold in half and put glue on one edge, we call this a “flippy”.
I have a question…what is the name of the Smart board file that you used for ionic and covalent bonding?? also what is the name of the software that is used for your Smartboard (for example, I use ActivInspire)
thanks! the new link is: http://exchange.smarttech.com/details.html?id=3d673a3f-bcd6-44a5-8dc8-1d6acab87013
For our SmartBoard we use the Notebook program, I believe
hi. How are the notebooks working this year? I was thinking this would be easier next year too … if i can get myself together to get the pages printed out early. do you print out your powerpoint presentations? or how do you have them interact with your ppt? do you have them number this page too and put it in the notebooks? do you still have them do a table of contents etc?
